Good to Know Before You Go
Palani Murugan Temple sits on a hilltop — you can climb the 693 steps, or take the rope car (about 3 minutes) or the winch train (better for elderly visitors, about 8 minutes). The temple's open roughly 5:40 AM–9:00 PM. Thaipusam is the biggest festival here by far and draws enormous crowds; if you're not specifically visiting for it, weekdays are considerably calmer than weekends. Mobile phones aren't allowed inside — there are paid counters near the entrance to store them.
