The final stretch into Ooty climbs the Coonoor Ghat (NH181) — the most-traveled of the Nilgiri ghat roads, with 14 numbered hairpin bends. It's a genuinely winding mountain climb, not a gentle drive, so if motion sickness is a concern for anyone traveling with you, it's worth knowing in advance. The ghat is also more prone to landslides during heavy monsoon rain than the flatter approach roads — if you're traveling June-September, build in some flexibility rather than a tight schedule. October to February gives the clearest views over the tea gardens and the most comfortable weather for sightseeing once you arrive.
Madurai → Kodaikanal Road junction → Coonoor → Ooty
The journey generally takes around 6.5 - 7 Hrs, depending on pickup location, traffic, and road conditions.
